HeliOffshore Launches Enhanced Decision-Making in Engineering (EDM-E) Training Programme
Today, HeliOffshore released member-only resources for a newly developed Enhanced Decision-Making in Engineering (EDM-E) Training Programme.
EDM-E is a collaborative training programme designed to strengthen frontline decision-making under pressure and support engineers with handling challenging maintenance situations safely.
HeliOffshore has designed five detailed training scenarios based on challenging maintenance tasks and situations your frontline teams could encounter daily.
The scenarios cover:
1. Pre-Flight Avionics
2. Ice Detector issues
3. Elastomeric Bearing
4. Tail Rotor Balance issues
5. Snagging
For each scenario, the programme presents decision points at key junctures, requiring participants to imagine what they would do in the same situation. Participants are asked to commit to a response, rank alternative options, and share and discuss the decision rationale.
Scott Allan, Technical Director, HeliOffshore, said: “The EDM-E training programme will transform decision-making on the frontline. Through encouraging deeper discussions about how and why engineers decide a course of action, the training programme prepares colleagues to manage complex issues confidently whilst always upholding the highest standards of safety. I am hugely excited to now be able to roll out training materials today after months of close collaboration with HeliOffshore members”.
Over 70 Engineers, from newly qualified engineers to Heads of Maintenance and Technical Directors, were interviewed and participated in training to inform the programme’s development.
Training resources – including video materials, detailed scenarios, and guides for facilitating sessions – have been made available to Members only via SPACE.
