HeliOffshore Launches Updated and Interactive Safety Performance Model

HeliOffshore is proud to announce the launch of its updated and now fully interactive Safety Performance Model (‘SPM’), a significant step forward in our collective mission to enhance safety across the offshore helicopter industry.

The SPM underpins HeliOffshore’s safety strategy. Its purpose is to direct focus for collaboration and action on activities that, when performed well, will ensure no lives are lost in offshore aviation.

Informed by data collected through HeliOffshore’s Safety Intelligence Programme, the SPM identifies opportunities for organisations to implement Accident Prevention Goals that address critical safety events, including loss of control in flight (LOC-I), controlled flight into terrain or water (CFIT), and system or component failure or malfunction (SCF) — the three most common occurrence categories for fatal accidents over the last 11 years.

Building on the strong foundation of the original SPM, this latest and interactive version now connects the Accident Prevention Goal we have identified with resources HeliOffshore’s members and partners have developed together to guide the implementation of actions that will prevent accidents. It also includes related activities to unlock the effective application of Accident Prevention Goals, as well as areas for future collaboration.

Tim Rolfe, CEO of HeliOffshore, said: “This updated version of the Safety Performance Model reflects the collective knowledge we have gained over the last ten years—and will guide our efforts over the next decade to secure the right resources and deliver the right actions to transform frontline safety performance. By making safety insights more accessible and actionable, we are strengthening our collective ability to drive safety improvements where they matter most.”

Developed in collaboration with HeliOffshore’s members and strategic partners, the interactive version of the model provides our industry with a dynamic tool to support data-driven decision-making on safety actions.
