ESASI: Maintaining Momentum

This week (6th April 2022), Matt Greaves, Director of HeliOffshore’s Safety Intelligence Programme (HSIP), attended the European Society of Air Safety Investigators (ESASI) conference in Budapest, Hungary.

The conference considered all aspects of aviation safety and accident investigation. There were speakers from a range of Safety Investigation Agencies, Aircraft Operators, OEMs and Regulators with presentations including from specific accident briefings, new techniques and safety management.

Matt commented that: “This conference was last held in 2019, so it was great to be back meeting colleagues face-to-face. It’s a reminder that although video conferencing is an effective communication tool, it still can’t rival meeting in person to build relationships.

“One of the presentations described the issues experienced around an offshore helicopter accident and it’s always helpful to talk to the investigators to understand their perspective.

“It was also interesting to hear how one airline is revising their approach to risk identification. This is something we’re always trying to improve within HSIP so will help inform HeliOffshore’s future strategy.”

Matt is also a committee member of ESASI and fulfils the role of Treasurer.
