HeliOffshore Safety Leadership Bursary Scheme
What is the purpose of the bursary scheme?
Strong and effective safety leadership is essential to enabling and ensuring the safe transport of passengers offshore every day.
The HeliOffshore Safety Leadership Bursary aims to develop, support and encourage future leadership talent in the offshore aviation industry. It’s an opportunity for members to take a fresh look at their organisation and identify the colleagues who have the potential to be the safety leaders of tomorrow.
Endorsement and Support for the scheme
The concept of a HeliOffshore Safety Leadership Bursary was shared with industry leaders at the 2022 HeliOffshore conference. Strong support was voiced from across stakeholder groups and several organisations pledged financial support for the scheme. Financial support was also provided via the Milestone Poker evening held during HAI 2022. This bursary scheme is aligned with the industry agreed HeliOffshore Safety Performance model.
Where do the funds for the HeliOffshore bursary come from?
The bursary funds for 2022 are being generously donated by several HeliOffshore stakeholders. These are:
Milestone Aviation
Aerossurance
First Human
HeliOffshore would like to thank these companies for their generous support.
If your organisation would like to donate to the HeliOffshore Safety Leadership Bursary fund, please contact Tim Rolfe directly at tim.rolfe@helioffshore.org.
Who can be nominatedfor the bursary scheme?
The bursary is open to all individuals from HeliOffshore member organisations.
Individuals should be nominated through their organisation’s HeliOffshore lead (if known) and should have an agreed personal development plan in place, identifying them as having potential in terms of safety leadership within their organisation. Nominated individuals may work in any area of the member organisation.
Member organisations may nominate up to 5 individuals each year for the bursary via the nomination form below.
All nominations will be reviewed by the Safety Bursary Committee.
Successful nominations will be funded in accordance with the decision of the Safety Bursary Committee.
Unsuccessful nominations will be given feedback.
How does the bursary scheme work?
The Bursary provides funded places on one of the following programmes to accelerate safety leadership within your business:
Learning from Normal Work Programme
An e-learning course to help organisations implement the IOGP’s guide to Learning from Normal Work in practice. Developed by the guide’s author, Dr Marcin Nazaruk, this programme is designed to help organisations transition to proactive learning by looking into the factors during ‘normal work’ actions and events that could be the precursors of future accidents.
A grant in support of another safety leadership programme
It is likely grants made under point 2 will not cover the full cost of the course and the nominating organisation must expect to share costs with HeliOffshore.
What are the expectations of successful nominees?
HeliOffshore would liketo see successful nominees commit to:
Completing the course supported via the HeliOffshore Safety Bursary
Completing a feedback questionnaire describing the impact of the HeliOffshore Safety Bursary scheme on them as an individual
Taking part in a case study to help encourage further individuals’ involvement in the HeliOffshore Safety Leadership Bursary programme.
In addition, HeliOffshore would like member organisations to communicate the support given to the individual within their company and make it clear why safety leadership is important to their organisation and the wider industry.
