Scott Allan joins HeliOffshore as Technical Director

HeliOffshore today (23 August 2022) announced the appointment of Scott Allan as its new Technical Director.

Scott will be responsible for devising and delivering a multi-year strategy to support improvements in frontline safety performance in maintenance and ground operations. He’ll also be responsible for directing the System Reliability and Resilience workstream activities, targeting the key safety priorities outlined in HeliOffshore’s Safety Performance Model.

Scott has operated at every level of engineering and safety during his 20-year career in aviation, from an unlicenced mechanic on the hanger floor to a direct report to senior leadership teams. He most recently held the position of Head of Engineering and Technical Expertise at Babcock Aviation, where he was responsible for the company’s aviation sector engineering operations. Scott’s previous experience includes roles at Vector Aerospace and CHC Helicopter, and he commenced his career with the Royal Air Force as an airframe and propulsion engineer.

Fatigue management for engineers, as well as pilots, is a safety issue Scott is particularly passionate about. He gives lectures about crisis management to MBA classes and wrote a highly acclaimed paper on fatigue management for his Air Transport Operations Master’s thesis.

Tim Rolfe, Chief Executive of HeliOffshore, commented: “We’re excited to welcome Scott to the new role of Technical Director at HeliOffshore. His wealth of experience in aviation engineering and safety combined with his passion for enhancing human performance will enable us to continue to shape and lead industry-wide programmes to improve the safety performance of offshore helicopter operations in the years ahead.”

Scott Allan, Technical Director at HeliOffshore, said: “Offshore aviation has experienced significant changes in recent years, and I’m hugely confident in our industry’s ability to continually evolve safety performance and standards in this changing environment. Collaboration is key, and I’m excited to have the opportunity to utilise my relationships with industry stakeholders and OEMs worldwide to share and embed best practices, and collectively deliver a safer frontline.”
